With such a system, it is possible to operate grid independent and have wind or solar energy as the main energy source. Many different scenarios are possible, based on the specific needs and consumption of a household.
During the day, the energy generated via the solar panels can be used directly. If there is no one at home however, it can be stored and used at a later point, for example in the evening. If the energy from the PV system or the wind turbine is not enought, the system automatically switches to grid (if available).
In cases of overload of the inverter/charger, it uses the missing energy from the grid up to a certain level*.
Instead of exporting the power to the grid and receiving few cents from the export tariff or if such tariff is not available, a home owner can start to reduce their electricity bill.
The system can also be used as UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) in cases of grid failure.
